2016 Trending Colors

2015 Colors of the yearDid you know that, every year, the Color Marketing Group forecasts a “color of the year”? It’s what they believe to be the trend in color, and it impacts industries from fashion to automotive to even window treatments. For 2016, the forecasted trending colors are Rose Quartz and Serenity, marking the first time two colors have been chosen together. If you’re interested in discussing ways you can add these colors—or others—to your home, talk to a trained consultant at Windo VanGo serving the Baltimore area. We’ll be happy to help!

What Influences Trends in Colors

  • When the economy is strong, popular color gets rich, deep, and vibrant. When it is weak, we see trends toward light colors and soft/safe colors
  • When the country is at war or under attack, trending color becomes safe, soft, and practically nonexistent. Taupe, grays, and whites are war colors
  • When major events are coming up, such as the Presidential election or the Olympics, softer and safe colors are what we are drawn to

Pantone® Matching System (PMS)

Universally known for creating a way for all color to be matched, Pantone’s PMS system is what forecasters use to show the exact color that has been forecasted. For the 2016 colors, the PMS numbers are:

  • Serenity—Pantone color 15-3919
  • Rose Quartz—Pantone color 13-1520

If you choose to use these colors, you’ll know you’re getting the real deal if those numbers are associated.

Even though the above colors are leading the way, remember that they’re just fads. In a year, new ones will be out. Keep that in mind as you determine whether to add these colors to your home. If you are unsure about them or don’t want to overwhelm your space, choose to use accent items like throw pillows or other decorative things. And if you don’t like the colors, don’t worry. You don’t have to use them at all!
