About Pantone

In 1963, Pantone established the Pantone Matching system or simply PMS system, which is a color-matching system. It’s the standard by which people can match color for exacting results. The PMS system uses a standardized Pantone numbering system to identify each color, making it easy for anyone to refer to a specific color.

Trending Colors of the Year

Each year, the Pantone Color Institute predicts what will be the trending color for the year. They review the latest from the auto industry, designer runways, and interior decorating showcases. Once they identify the trends, they narrow down the choices. Past years’ colors have included Emerald (a bright green), Radiant Orchid (a striking combination of purple and pink), Marsala (an earthy shade of red-brown), Greenery (a yellow-green, snow pea color), Ultra Violet (a symbol of unconventionality), and Minion Yellow (inspired by the characters from Universal Pictures and Illumination Entertainment’s Despicable Me). If you’ve been looking to add some color to your home, one or more of these colors (or their complements, as can be found on the Pantone website) might be just the thing for you. Just remember: When you’re looking for colors for your room, select the ones you love. As you can see from the list above, trendy colors come and go—so choose what you love and not what you feel you need just because it’s a fad.
